  • How long does a fence installation take?

In our experience, there are several factors that can play into the duration of a fence installation, but it's safe to say that most residential installations will take one or two days to complete. According to This Old House, a well-constructed fence can last about 20 years, making one or two days of installation well worth it.

  • Do you come to the property before providing an estimate?

Absolutely. We want to see the lay of the land and consider anything that might prevent or deter our regular installation practices. Our visit also gives us the chance to meet with you so we can be sure we understand your expectations.

  • How fast can we expect to meet for an estimate/consultation?

In most cases, we can meet with you during the same week you contact us or within five business days.

  • How long is the project turnaround completion?

It varies depending on a host of factors, including materials and weather, but the average turnaround is three to five weeks from the initial consultation.

  • Do I need a survey prior to my fence installation?

We recommend you have a survey done or, at least, a corner locate completed before your fence installation. We need to understand your property boundaries to ensure that your fence is located completely on your property. If necessary, we will use plot maps and try to locate your corner pins. You are responsible for providing the information (plot map, survey, etc.) that will allow us to locate the property corners.

  • Do you contact 811 for locating underground utilities?

Yes. Prior to your installation date, we will contact 811 so they can mark your power, water, natural gas, and internet/cable lines. However, please be aware that they will NOT locate irrigation lines, low voltage (outdoor lighting), and propane lines that run from your tanks, etc.

  • Do I need a permit to have a fence installed?

In many cases, yes. We suggest you contact your local government to see if permitting is necessary.  We will happily assist you with obtaining any necessary permits.

  • Are your fence posts set in concrete?

Absolutely. We set all our fence posts in concrete during fence installation. Most post holes we make will be about two feet deep and between eight and ten inches in diameter. We use a minimum of 50 pounds of concrete for each post.

  • Does your work include a warranty?

All materials used are warrantied by the manufacturer of those materials. At Sears Fence LLC, we offer a 1-year craftsmanship warranty on the installation of your fence. This warranty covers fence installation errors only. Fence materials can change in appearance, dimension, shape, etc. due to the natural aging process of the material and exposure to natural elements. Defects to the fence materials caused by these natural elements are excluded from the craftsmanship warranty.

  • Should I stain or paint my wood fence?

You should stain or stain and seal any newly constructed wooden fence. On the other hand, we don’t recommend painting the fence because the paint will not penetrate the wood.

If staining or sealing is your choice, we recommend waiting three months after the fence is installed. This wait gives the wood time to complete the drying process it undergoes when being pressure treated.
